Challenges to Rural Living Internationally
I moved to Arizona just two months ago from Nova Scotia, Canada, a province on the Atlantic Ocean, northeast of Maine. Other than the city of Halifax, the rest of the province is rural in nature, with many small fishing and farming and forestry communities.
It is with interest then that the main newspaper in the region, the Halifax Chronicle-Herald, is running a special series this week called “Crossroads: The Changing Face of Rural Nova Scotia”. In addition to print articles, the website for the newspaper contains moving videos about how the rural communities in that province are struggling to keep their young people there and the devastating impact the closing of a large employer can have.
