On June 13, 2017, the Roundtable on the Promotion of Health Equity and the Elimination of Health Disparities and the Roundtable on Population Health Improvement will hold a joint workshop on Achieving Rural Health Equity and Well-Being: Challenges and Opportunities. This workshop will take place at the Montgomery Marriott in Prattville, Alabama, and will be webcast. The link to the webcast and the archived videos will be available on this page.
At this 1-day public workshop, participants will explore a range of initiatives focused on improving community well-being. The objectives of this workshop are: (1) exploring the impacts of racial inequities, economic issues, and immigration on rural communities in the U.S.; and, (2) learning about asset-based approaches to addressing these challenges in initiatives that improve population health and health equity. The workshop will include invited presentations on and discussion of initiatives created to tackle systematic disinvestment in rural communities and implications for improving the social determinants of health, including access to and quality of health care services. The workshop is intended to illustrate some promising and constructive actions that rural communities facing these enormous challenges are taking to equitably improve residents' health and well-being.
