The forum was coordinated by a group of 12 graduate students from the University of Arizona College of Public Health. Through the Border Health Service Learning Institute, the students spent the week in Nogales, AZ and Sonora volunteering at and learning about local organizations centered around immigration and/or health for an intensive learning experience on border health.
The experiences focused on three issues: migration, health and economic development. Organizations included Casas Saludables, the Nogales Community Food Bank, Mariposa Health Center, the Crossroads Mission, Border Patrol, La Associacion de Promotoras de Nogales, Centro Hospital General, and more.
