Laura Schweers, MSW, is part of the AzCRH-ADHS CDC COVID Disparities Initiative, known as AHEAD AZ (Advancing Health Equity, Addressing Disparities in Arizona). In her role as program management assistant, Schweers will assist partners to ensure materials adapted and/or developed through AHEAD AZ that address advance care planning are accessible and culturally appropriate to underserved populations in rural areas, particularly those with chronic health conditions who are experiencing long-term effects of COVID-19. Another activity is the development a Public Health Champions Training pilot program to engage, mobilize, and empower community leaders on health promotion and prevention to support local public health capacity to build resilience and address the public health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Laura will also co-lead an effort to support critical access hospitals, rural health clinics, and federally qualified health centers through training and education activities for their healthcare workforce.

Laura graduated with her MSW from Arizona State University. Prior to AHEAD, Laura worked for the Sonoran Center for Excellence in Disabilities at the Family and Community Medicine at UArizona.
