Rural Health Transformation Program Timeline updated from AHCCCS

Updated June 5, 2026

AHCCCS is pleased to share an update on the Arizona Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP).

As the lead agency for the program, AHCCCS has been working closely with Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and the Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) over the past several months to establish the foundation needed to successfully implement this significant investment in rural health across Arizona.

As planning and coordination efforts have progressed, AHCCCS has refined the program timeline to support a strong, well-coordinated launch and long-term program success. We are sharing this update to provide stakeholders with a clear understanding of what has changed, why it has changed, and what to expect next.

What Has Changed?

The timeline previously shared anticipated grant funding opportunities being released beginning in April 2026, with application review and award activities completed by August 2026.

The updated schedule reflects the timeline needed to launch and administer this statewide initiative effectively:

Funding opportunities will be released beginning in June 2026 and continue through the fall.

Grant awards will begin in June 2026 and continue on a rolling basis in accordance with State of Arizona procurement requirements.

All Budget Year 1 funding will be obligated by October 30, 2026, with awarded funds expended by September 30, 2027.

Program implementation, performance monitoring, and scaling activities will continue through 2030.

Importantly, the program's overall scope, funding commitment, and long-term goals have not changed.

Why Has the Implementation Timeline Been Updated?

Launching the Arizona RHTP requires careful planning to ensure funding opportunities are accessible, well-supported, and positioned for long-term success.

As implementation planning has progressed, AHCCCS and its partner agencies have taken additional time to establish the resources, processes, and support needed to effectively administer the program and help stakeholders navigate future funding opportunities.

The updated timeline reflects this work and is intended to ensure funding is distributed effectively, stakeholders receive meaningful support, and investments can deliver lasting benefits for rural Arizona communities.

What Does This Mean for You?

The Arizona RHTP remains fully funded and on track to achieve its intended goals.

For potential applicants, community partners, providers, and other stakeholders, the updated timeline provides additional clarity on when funding opportunities will become available and when awards are expected to begin.

No action is required at this time. Stakeholders are encouraged to continue preparing for future funding opportunities and to watch for additional program announcements in the coming months.
