Learning objectives:  
  • Identify signs and symptoms of overdose and how to administer naloxone. 
  • Recognize the importance of self-care and emotional support for those who have witnessed and those who support someone who has experienced an overdose. 
  • Promote safe environments for overdose prevention, and recovery of substance use. 

Bianca SantaMaria, MPH, is a Research Program Administration Officer with the Overdose Data 2 Action-State (OD2A-S) program at the University of Arizona, Center for Rural Health. She has led the development and facilitation of Overdose Recognition and Naloxone Administration training, and works on program evaluation, operations, and developing educational materials. She has presented at professional conferences locally and nationwide. Ms. SantaMaria has a background in substance use prevention and education, clinical research, health promotion, and harm reduction. She completed her undergraduate and graduate education at the University of Arizona and is pursuing her PhD. 


Elena “Lena” Cameron,  MPH (She/Her) is a Health Educator Coordinator for multiple programs under the Comprehensive Center for Pain & Addiction. She currently works on cannabis education and behavioral health workforce development for people with lived experience in Arizona.  Her background is in health promotion, harm reduction, and substance use prevention.
